AALDRAU
Our idea was to make a poetic statement in the framework of the PULL:FAKTOR project which was organized on the occasion of the 100th anniversary of the referendum in Carinthia. The concept of UNIKUM was a traveling exhibition based on the traditional Austrian parades in the anniversary years of the referendum. For the PULL:FAKTOR project artists were invited to design car trailers dedicated to draft animals, i. e. nomad or migrant species from ten southern Carinthia. Each of us could choose one animal. We chose an eel. With the AALDRAU project we wanted to bring the animal (eel), the river (Drava/Drava) and people (poetry) into relation to one another.
A long hose winds along the floor to the trailer. Water flows out of the hose and fills the inside. The trailer has one wheel significantly smaller than the other and therefore leans to one side. At the lowest point, water flows over the edge onto the street, follows the slope of the ground and finds its outlet in the street drain. The inside of the trailer is covered with a tarpaulin on which a poem übersetzen (translate*) is printed in three languages - German, Slovenian and Croatian. The poem was written in German by a Slovenian-Austrian writer Maja Haderlap and translated into Croatian by Kruno Stipešević and into Slovenian by myself.
